FUNAAB, MAPOLY students, others jailed for internet fraud in Ogun State

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, said it has secured the conviction of nine internet fraudsters.

They were sentenced in Ogun State by two judges of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta.

The EFCC, in a statement on Tuesday, said Toheeb Abdulrasheed and Chukwuebuka Isaac Dike were sentenced on Monday by Justice Mohammed Abubakar for their involvement in internet-related fraud.

Dike, it was learned, claimed to be a 100-level Biochemistry student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB); he was sentenced to three months in prison.

Also, Abdulrasheed, who bagged four months jail term was said to have claimed to be a graduate of Business Administration from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Abeokuta.

Having pleaded guilty to their respective one-count charge, the EFCC said the judge also ordered that Abdulrasheed restituted the sum of $600 to his victim and to also forfeit his iPhone 6 to the Federal Government.

Dike, it was gathered, was ordered to restitute the sum of $500 to his victim, while also ceding his Gold iPhone 11 Pro Max and Rose Gold Infinix Hot 5 to government.

On Tuesday, Media reported that Justice Ibrahim Watilat convicted three persons: Tobiloba Oni, Michael Oluwaseun Jemiseye, and Paul Oluwadamilare for internet fraud.

They were found guilty of the charges preferred against them by the Ibadan Zonal Office of the EFCC.

Oni got four months jail term; Jemiseye got three months with an option of N120,000 fine, while Odole got four months with N120,000 option of fine.

Also, Favour Chinueze Ekeh, Kolade Nwachukwu and Sultan Adeniji Egbede were sentenced to three months in jail, with an option of N100,000, N50,000 and N100,000 fine, respectively.

The fine must be paid within two days of the sentence, else, the prison term would apply.
