Nursing mother remanded for trafficking 2kg of cannabis

A Federal High Court on Tuesday ordered that a 25-year-old nursing mother, Rofiat Tajudeen, charged with trafficking 2kg of cannabis sativa also known as hemp, be remanded in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), pending sentencing.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Justice P I Ajoku, gave the order after Tajudeen pleaded guilty to unlawful trafficking of hemp.

she said, “I know that I am guilty of selling Cannabis and I beg this honourable court to have mercy on me,”

Ajoku ordered that she be remanded in custody of the NDLEA, Oyo State Command, and adjourned the case until July 2 for sentencing.

Tajudeen was arrested on May 13 at Akinyele area in Ibadan, Oyo State.

NAN reports that NDLEA accused the nursing mother and her husband, who is now at large, for engaging in drug trafficking.

Mr Raphael Himinkaiye, Counsel to the NDLEA, alleged that the husband cultivates the hemp on his farm.
