CAF president Ahmad Ahmad has been released by the French judicial authorities, with no charges against him.

Recall that the African Football chairman was arrested on Thursday morning at the Berri Hotel in Paris after being accused of contract fraud, mismanagement of CAF funds, and the payment of US$ 20,000 sums directly into the private bank accounts of federation presidents.

Ahmad, who is also a FIFA vice president, had been in Paris for the FIFA Congress on Wednesday, where its newly re-elected president Gianni Infantino said his organisation had got rid of a “toxic, almost criminal” image.’

The CAF President who has been released after his arrest, was scheduled to watch the opening match at the Women’s World Cup. He will subsequently leave for Egypt ahead of the African Cup of Nations, AFCON, starting on June 21.
