Jimi Agbaje the PDP governorship candidate for Lagos State has spoken after his loss at the governorship elections held on Saturday, March 9th, 2019.

On why he lost the election to APC’s Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Agbaje said this was due to so many people being prevented from turning up to vote due to strategies put in place by his opponent’s camp.

“From the outset it was clear that the numbers were on our side and naturally, that was our comparable strength but the moment you had the numbers slashed, then we were at a disadvantage. The strategy of the other side was to make sure that those numbers did not come out to vote and to that extent, it has worked in their favour.”

He added;

“It is not good for our democracy when only about 20 per cent come out to vote. There was voter apathy because of the event that happened during the presidential election.”

Agbaje had spoken on the security measures needed for the elections before it was conducted saying;
“We are calling on security agencies that those responsible for the mayhem in Okota, Coker Aguda and other areas, where it was obvious to people, as to what happened, to bring them to book immediately.

‘This is very important, because if we are going to talk about democracy, then we have to practice it properly. Everybody must play his part.

“We have told voters to come out and vote, and we assured them that their votes would count.

“If we have a situation where we don’t bring to book those who created problems in the polls, that have disenfranchised many voters, we are just paying lip service to democracy,’’ he said.

The PDP candidate lost the election to APC candidate Babajide Sanwo-Olu who has emerged the governor of Lagos state.
