So sad! Family of 6 die in Kano fire

tragedy struck on Saturday after a family of six died in a fire incident.

According to reports, the fire started in the wee hours of Saturday at Bawo road, Hausawa quarters, Kano, killing all 6 people.

The victims have been identified as Isaiah Jonathan, his wife, three children, including a newborn, and the wife’s younger sister.

According to the Cable newspaper, the fire began from the family’s sitting room, preventing them from escaping.

A witness who spoke with the publication, the neighbours actually heard people screaming in the wee hours of Saturday.

He said, they actually thought armed robbers had invaded the area. When they, however, came out to check what was happening, they saw a fire and it had already destroyed some parts of the house.

He added that they tried putting out the fire, but couldn’t as it had now become very fierce.

The witness went on saying he saw the family trying to pull down the burglary proof of their home, adding that neighbours wanted to help but could not find a ladder to get to them.

“When we heard some noise at the early hours, we thought robbers had visited us. But when we came out, we saw fire which burnt some part of the house and it became difficult to it put out.

“We saw them trying to pull out the burglary proof. We couldn’t find a ladder to get to their rescue.”

Abdullahi Kiyawa, the spokesman for the Kano police command, upon being asked about the situation, confirmed the sad incident.

In his words;

“At about 0325hrs, a control room call had informed that there was a fire incident on 39 Bawo Road, Hausawa; all the family of one Jonathan, his wife, three children and their maid all burnt to ashes. The fire was put out with the help of men from Kano Fire Service.”
