Spanish Fan Names Granddaughter “Chimamanda” In Honor Of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was super delighted when a fan from Spain told her that she named her granddaughter – Chimamanda, because of her.

Mrs Adichie is currently in Cartagena, Colombia, where she was called upon to deliver the inaugural Gabriel Garcia Marquez lecture at the Hay festival.

After the great lecture, she met with fans and it became even a greater experience when a super fan, who couldn’t communicate in neither English nor Igbo, told her that she named her granddaughter after her.

Sharing a video of the beautiful moment, Chimamanda wrote:
“‘I named my granddaughter Chimamanda,’ she said.
Deeply moved by the warmth and love in Barrio Nelson Mandela.
I have never wished so desperately that I spoke Spanish.
Thank you, Cartagena.
