The constitution will need to be amended – Senate reacts to new Democracy day

Following the announcement of June 12 now being regarded as Nigeria’s democracy day in honour of Late Moshood Abiola’s 1996 election win, the Senate deliberated on it today with Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu saying;

‘the Constitution needs to be amended if June 12th is declared as Democracy day’.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki on his part said;

 ‘we recognize the fact that the recognition of Chief MKO Abiola and his contributions have been long overdue. We must recognize this good intention.There might be imperfections in how it was implemented, but let us take the good intention behind all of this’.
