Sir Alex Ferguson undergoes emergency brain surgery

Manchester United have confirmed Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone emergency brain surgery.

‘Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone emergency surgery today for a brain haemorrhage,’ read a statement from Manchester United. ‘The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to optimise his recovery. ‘His family request privacy in this matter.’

According to The Times an ambulance was called to the 76-year-old’s home in Cheshire at about 9am yesterday morning and took him to Macclesfield district hospital. He was subsequently transferred to and treated at the Salford Royal.
