Court jails pastor who sprays insecticide on his followers

A South African self-styled prophet who sprays insecticide on members of his church to supposedly cure ailments, has been jailed by an S.A court.

The man, Pastor Lethebo Rabalago was found guilty of five charges of grievous assault and contravening chemicals laws

The Sowetan daily reported that Rabalago used “Doom”, an insecticide on his followers, and Rabalago was sentenced to 4-years imprisonment or pay a 21,000 ($1,700) fine.

Rabalago’s lawyer Edmund Lubusi said his client will pay the fine instead.

“We have made an arrangement that my client will pay 3,000 rand in installments every month until the fine is fully paid,” Lubusi told the par.

Photographs of Rabalago spraying volunteers at his church with the insecticide hit the internet in 2016. He claimed he healed some people of various medical complaints with the insecticide, however, some suffered from the insecticide for months.

Rabalago atthe time said he was “glorifying God” by spraying his congregation at the Mount Zion General Assembly (MZGA) church. “Everything here on Earth belongs to God. Petrol belongs to God. Doom belongs to God,” he said.
