Man sets his girlfriends home in Abuja ablaze

A young man identified as Ifeanyi Ede has been arraigned before a Kubwa Grade I Area Court for allegedly setting his girlfriend’s house ablaze in Abuja.

He appeared in court on Thursday on charges of assault and arson.

Ede,  pleaded not guilty to three charges of criminal trespass, causing mischief by fire and criminal intimidation.‎

Esther Yahaya, according to prosecutor Idowu Lawal reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on Feb. 5.

Lawal said the accused trespassed into the complainant’s house and set the house on fire on the said date. He added that the complainant lost her valuables worth N94,000 in the fire.‎ And if not for the intervention of her neighbours, she would have lot her life as well

Lawal added that the accused even while in police custody, threatened the complainant and not for once did he show remorse after his arrest claiming he bought the properties lost by the lady and he has the right to do anything to them.

He said the offence contravened sections 342, 337 and 397 of the Penal Code.

Judge, Mohammed Marafa, after listening to the plea of the accused, granted him bail in the sum of N150,000 with one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned the matter until March 5 for hearing.
