Gunmen in the early hours of Monday killed a husband, his wife, five children and eight other worshippers who were returning from the crossover service on New Year Day in Omoku, the headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers State.
52 injured victims of the attack are currently receiving treatment in different hospitals in the state.The Nation reports .
The bodies of the 15 victims were still at the pavilion of the local government secretariat in Omoku, with their relatives and friends making efforts to identify them and recover the bodies for burial.
The gunmen were suspected to be militants working for a notorious kidnapper –cum militant, Mr. Igwedibia Johnson, aka Don Waney, who is on the run, following raid on his camp and shrines in the early hours of November 20, 2017, soldiers from 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt.
When contacted on the incident the spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said he has not been briefed on the incident.
