An alleged paedophile has been found dead two days after he was targeted by vigilantes who posed as a 14-year-old girl to ensnare him. Nigel Sheratt, 47, was found dead at his home in Cannock, Staffordshire, where relatives denied the allegations against him adding that there had been no criminal investigation.
Soul Survivors posed as a 14-year-old girl and said they chatted with him online before arranging to meet up in a car park,Metro news reports.
When they confronted him he denied trying to groom the girl and he was taken away from the scene by police. He told the group that he thought he was chatting to a woman, but they said they made it clear that he was chatting to a 14-year-old girl.
Police said in a statement: ‘Staffordshire Police were called to a house on Ascot Drive, Cannock at around 1:40pm on Sunday 5 August where sadly the body of a man was found. ‘We are not treating the death as suspicious at this time. The death has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to previous contact between police and the deceased.’
