A teenager told police her ex had drugged her water bottle and raped her after he refused to get back together. Hannah Sandover, 18, claimed her ex had forced himself on her on a car backseat while her friend sat in the front listening to music with headphones.

She gave a formal statement, and her ex was taken into custody for hours and subjected to an intimate examination.

    Her false testimony read:

‘He became forceful and pinned me down, I kept telling him to stop. ‘I think he had drugged the water I was drinking’, the teenager from Southwick in Wiltshire added. The lies were revealed after Sandover herself was asked to have an intimate examination and her family started to question her claims. She then admitted she had made it up. She has now been convicted of wasting police time.

The lies escalated when she told a close friend he had spiked a water bottle and forced himself on her during a trip to Wiltshire. Her friend was so worried by this that she went to police with the allegations in October 2017. Instead of admitting she made it up, Sandover kept up the lie and gave police a formal statement.

She had been in an on-off relationship with her 18-year-old partner for nearly 10 months when they broke up. It was later revealed that Sandover – whose nickname is ‘Princess’ on her Facebook profile – had lied about the incident because he refused to rekindle their romance.

When her family began to question her fake claims she confessed that they had had consensual sex and that she had made the whole thing up. She appeared at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court in Wiltshire on May 18, where she admitted a charge of wasting police time.

    Prosecutor, Ryan Seneviratine, said:

‘Miss Sandover is extremely lucky that she didn’t get charged with perverting the course of justice, only due to her age and the fact she has no previous convictions. ‘

Her ex-boyfriend has said his confidence in approaching girls has been completely ruined.
