E! News host Jason Kennedy’s wife is coming to his defense after he became the subject of negative comments after it was revealed he made double the salary of colleague Catt Sadler.
Lauren Scruggs, 29, penned a blog post noting that her husband was receiving backlash after Sadler revealed she would be leaving the network over the pay disparity.
“I believe in female empowerment and gender equality, but it’s heartbreaking that a network is being deemed sexist when that is simply not true,”
“Women are paid accordingly on this network, and the difference in his salary versus hers did not affect Jason. He knows there are always more components to consider when determining one’s salary than gender alone,” she continued.
A source told People that Giuliana Rancic was paid “significantly more” than Kennedy before she departed the network in 2015.
“At one time my husband had a female co-anchor on E! News who made 3 times his salary,” Scruggs wrote, seeming to allude to Rancic.
Scruggs, who married Kennedy in 2014, went on to say there are “two sides to every story.”
She declared that if her husband witnessed gender inequality in the workplace he would “take action,” but that is not the case.
In a statement issued by E!, the network said: “E! compensates employees fairly and appropriately based on their roles, regardless of gender. We appreciate Catt Sadler’s many contributions at E! News and wish her all the best following her decision to leave the network.”
Sadler discovered she made just half of Kennedy’s salary when it was time to renew her contract with the network.
