A newborn baby had to be rescued from a car during hot weather while its grandfather went into Tesco. The baby was spotted by witnesses in Newton Abbot, Devon, last Thursday when temperatures reached 26°C. Inside the car the heat would have become unbearable for the baby.
A man pulled up to park alongside the car with the baby inside and as soon as he opened his door he could hear the baby’s distressing cries. He then recorded the noise to ‘name and shame’ whoever left the baby in the car to go into the supermarket before seeking help.
Witnesses later told Devon Live that the child was at the supermarket with its grandfather.
A Tesco spokesman said:
‘A customer told one of our colleagues that a young child had been left on their own in a parked car at our Newton Abbot store. ‘We put out a call in store for the vehicle’s driver and they returned to their car.’
