A pastor identified as Charles Mgbe, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigerian policeĀ in Calabar, for allegedly defrauding his lover and others of a whopping seventeen million Naira (N17,000,000).
Pastor Mgbe allegedly sold two cars in partnership with his estranged lover, and upon collecting the money paid for the vehicles, he told his lover he is yet to receive payment. With the wrong information fed to his lover, who is a widowed retiree, a complaint was made at the station which prompted aĀ late-night raid to recover the said vehicle.
Investigation into the case showed that Mgbe defrauded his lover of a cumulative N15 million, a scheme that left his lover broke.
A Police source said,
āThe most painful part of this whole scam is that his loverās bedridden brother gave him on trust, his automated teller machine, ATM, card to withdraw some money to foot his medical bills but he went a step further to withdraw a little above N2 million from the account under false pretences. Mgbe did not even consider that the man who owns the account was bedriddenā.
