A waitress who was spotted helping an elderly diner cut up his food has been given a surprise gift.
Evoni Williams, 18, had been working at Texas Waffle House in La Marque to save up money for university.
Last week, a then unknown customer – reliant on oxygen to live comfortably – came in for a bite to it. A woman overheard him mention to Evoni that his hands have limited mobility, so Evoni happily spent some time cutting up his lunch.
“I don’t know her name but I heard this elderly man tell her his hands don’t work too good,” wrote Laura.
“He was also on oxygen and struggling to breathe. Without hesitation, she took his plate and began cutting up his ham.”This may seem small but to him, I’m sure it was huge.
“I’m thankful to have seen this act of kindness and caring at the start of my day while everything in this world seems so negative. If we could all be like this waitress and take time to offer a helping hand…”
Laura’s status quickly went viral. Thousands of people expressed their desire to help Evoni.
According to KHOU, Texas Southern University decided to award the teenager with a $16,000 scholarship so she can study business management – a dream she’s had for a long time.
It didn’t end there. The town mayor has also shown his gratitude and has declared March 8 2018 Evoni ‘Nini’ Williams Day. A small act of kindness goes a long way.
Evoni, who was moved to tears by the bursary and the honour, told KHOU: “I got my own day. It’s something I would do any other day.”
