Selena Gomez had a near-fatal complication after receiving a kidney transplant from her dear friend Francia Raisa.

Raisa revealed in an interview with W Magazine this week that just hours after the transplant was completed — Gomez could have died.

“A few hours after our surgery, I woke up and had a text from her that said, ‘I’m really scared,'” Raisa said. “My kidney was very active, and when it turned, I broke an artery. They had to take her into emergency surgery and get a vein from her leg and build a new artery to keep my kidney in place.”

The  actress said she made the decision to give her pal her own kidney after Gomez, 25, became increasingly ill due to her autoimmune disease lupus

“She couldn’t open a water bottle one day. She chucked it and she started crying. And I said, ‘What’s wrong?’ and that’s when she told me. And she goes, ‘I don’t know what to do. The list is seven to ten years long,’

Raisa also said on “Harry” that her recovery period was even more difficult that Gomez’s.

“It’s harder as the donor because we are losing something our body didn’t need to lose,” she said.

“I couldn’t take a shower by myself, I had to have someone help me because I couldn’t move. I’m a very, very active person, so the fact that my doctor said I couldn’t move for two months,” she continued. “Two months, I couldn’t do anything active. All I could do was walk.”

Despite the hard times, Raisa doesn’t regret her decision and Gomez is eternally grateful.
