ASUU Fumes As Buhari Donates $1 Million To Taliban

The Buhari regime is said to have donated the money to ease the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has bemoaned the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime to donate one million dollars to Afghanistan while the union is on strike.

The Union’s complaint comes after the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) thanked Mr Buhari for his donation to Afghanistan.

Afghanistan came under the control of the Taliban extremists in August last year, and since then the group has strived to rebuild the country’s economy.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has today donated $1 million to Afghanistan to ease their humanitarian situation and to help in catering for the needs of millions of Afghan people, including women and children.

“Meanwhile #ASUU is still on strike. On the other hand, ASUU has vowed not to renegotiate, says FG is not willing to pay outstanding Funds,” ASUU tweeted.

ASUU commenced its industrial action on February 14, to compel the government to implement the Memorandum of Understanding and Memorandum of Action signed with the union from as far back as 2009.

The Union is also accusing the regime of ‘lackadaisical attitude’ and ‘dishonest disposition over the agreement.’

ASUU has said it will not engage in the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement as being proposed by the regime, except the government pays outstanding funds.
