The convener of Yoruba Mandate Group, Akogun Banji Ojo has stated that Southern Governors Forum chaired by Ondo state governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu is the way forward to ensure and guarantee the development agenda of the southern states.
He said this in his Independence Day message to Nigerians. Akogun Banji in his words said the meeting of the southern governors will help make informed decisions that will assist in restructuring Nigeria and positively impact the living conditions of the citizens. He said since we already have the Northern governor’s forum, the coming together of the Northern governor’s forum will help bring about equality and accurate census and population figures that will allow proper allocation formula to ensure the needs and wants of the people living in the region are met.
However, to achieve an all-around success in the formation of the southern governor’s forum, traditional leaders must be included because they would influence and represent the grassroots people and those living in rural areas, Akogun Banji added.
Part of the focus of coming together should also include constitution review to suit the present needs and living conditions of the citizens and also ensure the next president of Nigeria is from the south, he concluded.
