Formula 1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton has finally signed his new Mercedes contract reportedly worth £40million-a-year, ending speculation over his future.
The seven-time world champion’s initial deal with the all-conquering Silver Arrows expired on the final day of December 2020.
Mercedes’s team principal, Toto Wolff indicated at the end of January that they were in talks over renewing his deal, but admitted having a disagreement with his star driver on Zoom over the terms of his latest deal.
It was reported that Hamilton was holding out for a three-year deal, while the Silver Arrows were reluctant to agree to those terms.
But the two parties have finally come to an agreement, with Hamilton’s mega-money contract now confirmed ahead of the new season set to kick off in Bahrain on March 28.
Hamilton has won six of his seven world championships with Mercedes and is favorite to land No.8 this season, which will see him surpass Michael Schumacher.
