The follow-up to 2018’s Jurassic World: the Fallen Kingdom, and the sixth film in the Jurassic Park franchise, was originally planned to hit cinemas on June 11, 2021, but studio Universal Pictures has now pushed back the release date to June 10, 2022.
Filming began on the movie in February 2020 before production was shut down in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, although shooting resumed in July, the studio has decided to postpone its release until a year later than planned.
Given that the franchise has made over $5 billion worldwide,
it’s not a huge surprise that Universal wants to ensure that the world
is as safe as possible for as many cinemagoers to see such a big earner.
Alongside a new poster announcing its release date, director Colin Trevorrow tweeted on Tuesday night (October 6):
“For the past three months, I’ve worked with an extraordinary cast
and crew on a film we can’t wait to share with the world.
“Even though we’ll have to wait a bit longer, it will all be worth it.
Let’s stay healthy and take care of each other until then.”
Jurassic World: Dominion is only the latest film this week to have its release date changed.
The Batman, The Matrix 4, and The Flash were also all shifted on Tuesday.
Dune was delayed on Monday, while the next James Bond installment No Time to Die got postponed last week.
Jurassic World 3 now has a release date of June 10, 2022.
