Uruguay international, Luis Suarez, has urged Arsenal star, Lucas Torreira, to join him at Atletico Madrid, AS reports.
Suarez and Torreira are both international teammates with the Uruguay national team.
Suarez had initially played a key role in Torreira’s move to Arsenal back in 2018.
The striker recommended the signing of Torreira to Raul Sanllehi, who was Arsenal’s head of football at the time of the transfer.
Arsenal is keen to sell Torreira this summer, and Atletico Madrid wants to sign the midfielder on loan with a non-mandatory option to buy at the end of the season.
Atletico Madrid is currently leading the race for Torreira’s signature and remains in talks with Arsenal over a possible deal for the player.
Diego Simeone’s side will have to pay Arsenal about €24 million (£21.8m) to sign Torreira.
But Suarez, who is on the verge of joining Atletico Madrid after agreeing to personal terms with Simeone’s men on Wednesday, wants Torreira to move to the La Liga giants.
Meanwhile, speaking about Suarez, shortly after making his Arsenal debut, Torreira said: “Luis Suarez was very helpful.
