Lady Gaga will perform at the MTV Video Music Awards for the first time in seven years.
The 11-time Grammy winner, who last performed her hit Applause in 2013 on the VMAs stage,
revealed the exciting news with a video of herself in custom neon pink latex headpiece, bathrobe, and a pair of slippers.
‘I’ve been at home dreaming of #Chromatica, and it’s finally time to take off for the first live performance,’
the performer told her 43.1 million Instagram followers on Thursday.
In her brief recording, we can see her taking a sip of her drink, as her track Chromatica I blast in the background.
As she teased the first live performance of her chart-topping Chromatica album,
the singer looked ready for the upcoming award show, where she is leading this year’s VMAs with nine nominations
Her nods are for video of the year, the song of the year, best collaboration, and artist of the year.
We know her VMA performances to be over-the-top, like her unforgettable 2009 mashup of her hits Poker Face and Paparazzi,
in which she concluded her act by hanging lifelessly with blood running down her her torso.
BTS, Doja Cat, and J Balvin also among the musical acts dazzling viewers on stage at this year’s show.
The three acts, who are all nominated for an award, announced as performers at the 2020 ceremony earlier this month.
BTS nominated for Best Pop, Best K-Pop, and Best Choreography, Doja Cat is up for Song Of The Year,
PUSH Best New Artist, and Best Direction, while J Balvin battling it out for Best Collaboration and three Best Latin awards.
The VMAs will air live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on August 30 and
will follow new safety guidelines considering the COVID-19 pandemic.
New York governor Andrew Cuomo announced in June the event would take place at the iconic arena with ‘limited or no audience.’
On top of the usual awards going out that night, this year marks the introduction of
two new honors recognizing work produced during the pandemic: Best Music Video From Home and Best Quarantine Performance.
Among those competing for Best Music Video From Home include Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber,
Drake, and John Legend, while R&B duo Chloe x Halle up for Best Quarantine Performance.
Grande and Gaga both have nine nominations each, while Billie Eilish and The Weeknd follow close behind with six nods.
Ariana and Gaga’s dance hit Rain On Me is up for a slew of honors, including Song Of The Year,
Best Collaboration, Best Pop, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, and Best Choreography.
Taylor Swift, who scored five nominations, will also compete for Video For Good with The Man.
Fans will vote for VMA winners across 15 gender-neutral categories until August 23.
