Pilgrims have arrived in Mecca for Hajj, Islam’s holiest site on Wednesday and we can see them donning in face masks and they move in smaller groups.
The start of the historical prayer every year has been shaped by the coronavirus pandemic in the world.
One of the most important requirements as a Muslim is the Hajj which is done once in a lifetime.
The Hajj follows the path of the Prophet Muhammed who walked over 1,400 years ago and believed to trace the footsteps of prophets, Ismail and Ibrahim.
The hajj, both physically and spiritually demanding, should bring about greater humility and unity among Muslims.
This year, rather than praying and standing side by side with different people from all over the world,
this year will entail social distancing – that is people will stand apart
and will move in smaller groups to curb the spread of the virus.
The pilgrimage is a journey that Muslims traditionally experience with relatives.
In previous years, it’s peculiar to see people pushing elderly parents on wheelchairs
for them to complete the hajj and some parents carry their children on their backs.
