Jamie Carragher says there are no excuses for David Luiz’s first-half mistake against Manchester City, adding it proves he has no future at Arsenal.
Luiz came off the bench for the Gunners after Pablo Mari was forced off with an injury, and instantly showed the world why he wasn’t named in the first team.
The Brazilian failed to clear a whipped cross into the box, instead allowing the ball to bounce off of him and into the path of Raheem Sterling.
Manchester Citystriker Sterling needed no encouragement to rifle the ball past Bernd Leno to put the Citizens in front,At half time on Sky Sports, Carragher was asked if Luiz could be forgiven his mistake.
He responded: “Not really, it’s happened so often before, a lack of concentration. Maybe he thought it was too easy when it came in.
“It’s happened so often, it’s no surprise why he’s on the bench. There’s no future for him at Arsenalnext season.”
Luiz’s night got worse in the second half when he was sent off for bringing down Riyad Mahrez in the box after the forward got the better of him. His challenge saw a penalty awarded to Man City and Luiz shown a straight red card.
“I have no words really,” said Gary Neville. “I’ve said everything I’ve needed to say over the years. He never learns. So rash. The point when David Luiz came on, that’s when Manchester City have won this game.”
