A Nigerian national has been arrested for duping woman in Baguiati, Bidhannagar,India, of Rs. 9.26 lakhs after posing as a project manager of Mercedes Benz in the UK on Facebook. The accused identified as Chimelie David Okeke, 24, got in touch with the victim on Facebook earlier this year, claiming to be the project manager of Mercedes Benz in the UK.
He informed her that a gift was sent to her and in order to receive it, she should pay Rs. 9.26 lakhs as customs and duty charges. The woman paid the money but the gift never arrived. She lodged a complaint on March after realising she was duped. Okeke was subsequently arrested from West Delhi and brought to Salt Lake on transit remand on Friday, August 30.
