Beyoncé and Jay-Z decided to not attend the Grammys this year but it wasn’t backed up with the reason of not being in town or not winning an award.
The Carters actually won the Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album for Everything Is Love and were also nominated for Best Music Video for their single, “Apeshit.”
The reason for their no show at the award ceremony might be because of when their Grammy win was announced: The award they won was announced during the Grammys pre-show.
Also, neither Beyoncé nor Jay-Z were listed to perform during the actual show, so there was no need for them to go out of their way to grace the ceremony with their presence if they didn’t want to.
Remember that Jay-Z had earlier talked about the Grammys’s history of ignoring him in “Apeshit”. The lyrics that could be heard in the song was, “Tell the Grammy’s fuck that 0 for 8 shit/Have you ever seen the crowd goin’ apeshit?” as a reply to the Academy nominating his album 4:44 for 8 awards in 2018 but he still went home with nothing.
Bey and Jay were in Los Angeles this weekend.
