A 47-year old housewife, Joy Egeonu, has been arrested by the Ogun state police command for murder.
According to reports, Joy allegedly beat the 11-year nephew of her husband to death on the allegation that the young boy stole from her.
Police arrested the suspect after the deceased’s mother Ijeoma Egeonu reported the case at Agbado Divisional headquarters. Ijeoma reported that her son had been beaten to death by Joy stating that the sad incident happened on February 3rd over an allegation that the boy stole N6,500 belonging to her.
Egeonu added that her son’s body was taken to Ifo where she hurriedly buried him.
Joy was arrested. She later told the police that the boy had died on their way to the hospital. Also it was discovered that the missing money was taken by her husband and not the deceased as suspected.
Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu has now ordered that the case is immediately transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal investigation and intelligence Department for further investigation.
The arrest of the suspect’s husband was also ordered as he was said to have assisted in burying the boy in order to cover the criminal act of his wife.
