Police Inspector’s wife charged with biting off Sergeant’s ear

A Police Inspector’s wife, Lydia Uwadiegwu, who allegedly bit off part of a female Sergeant’s ear, was on Wednesday brought before an Ogba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Uwadiegwu, 25, whose husband was said to be attached to the Olosan Police Division, Mushin, Lagos, was arraigned alongside three other women: Ughaelunachi Justina, 61; Oladimeji Seun, 30; and Chinelo Okoh, 30.

They are standing trial before Mrs. Adeyemi Ajayi on a five-count charge of conspiracy, aiding and abetting, assault and giving false information to the Police.

Prosecuting Inspector Raji Akeem said the defendants committed the offences on October 31, at Olosan Police Barracks.

He told the court that they conspired and committed a felony by causing grievous harm to a woman Sergeant, Blessing Umongu.

The court heard that first defendant Uwadiegwu bit off Blessing’s left ear with the assistance of Justina and Seun.

Lydia was also accused of bathing Umongu with ground pepper, causing her partial blindness.

Seun and Okoh were alleged to have given false information about the woman sergeant, to Inspector Uwaduegwu, first defendant’s husband.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 411, 245, and 93 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty.

Chief Magistrate Ajayi granted each defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in the like sum.

The case was adjourned till January 7, for commencement of trial.
