A family in Lagos are desperately seeking for the whereabouts of a 29-year-old member, Paul Egba, reportedly disappeared from home.
Paul, who was said to be deaf, reportedly left the house on Agbedina Street, in the Ojodu Berger area of Lagos State on August 27, 2018.
His brother, Stephen, lamented that efforts to find him since then, had been abortive, adding that the case was reported at the Ojodu Police Station.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim was uneducated because the parents, who hailed from Delta State, allegedly divorced a few years after he was born.
The separation was said to have destroyed Paul’s chances of accessing education in a special school as he grew up dependent on others.
He was reportedly sheltered by Stephen, who catered to his financial and material needs.
The 28-year-old Ukpe, Delta State indigene said he was surprised when a neighbour called to inform him that his brother had gone missing.
He said,
“My brother, Paul, was born physically challenged. He is deaf; he talks, but not fluently. I usually leave him at home to go to work.
“Both of our parents divorced years ago and since he is physically-challenged, my mum could not afford to send him to a school for special people. When I also finished my secondary school, I had to sort myself out.
“So, since we started living together, the usual thing is that he goes out in the morning and returns in the evening after playing with some people. I am not always at home because of the nature of my work.“On August 27, 2018, I was at my workplace when my neighbour called to inform me that my brother went out the previous day and had yet to return home. I have searched everywhere to no avail, including reporting at a police station. I also made fliers and posted his pictures around the neighbourhood without any success.”
Paul said he usually worked round-the-clock because he was saddled with the responsibility of taking care of everybody in the family.
“I am the breadwinner of my family. I may be away for days, weeks or even months because I have to work for everybody. Because of that, Ido not know the people he relates or moves with,” he added.
