The Niger state police command has arrested a 30-year-old food vendor, Shamsudeen Bashiru, for allegedly abducting two girls in the Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, the victims, Okwudili Nwoke, 16, and Khadijat Araboma, 16, of Gwada town were allegedly taken to Suleja by the suspect.
Northern City News gathered that the suspect, who is from Sokoto State, claimed that he wanted to “save them from the molestation of the people that they (victims) were living with.”
Bashiru told punch correspondent that the victims came to him for help because they could no longer bear the molestation by their guardians, stressing that he took them to Suleja with their consent. .
. “I stay in the same Gwada with them; they came to me, telling me that they wanted to run away from their guardians who had been molesting them for over one year and they could not tolerate it anymore. That was when the idea of taking them to Suleja came to me,” the food vendor explained.
On if he has diabolical plan against the teenagers, Bashiru said, “Allah forbid; that is the last thing I will do. I was only trying to help them from their hopeless predicament; that was all.” .
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect admitted to having taken the girls to Suleja.
Abubakar said the command would not relent in its fight against abductors in the state, adding that the suspect would be charged to the court upon conclusion of the investigation.
