Summer is here! I understand that summer isn’t really our season and that it’s a borrowed season but it’s interesting how we have owned it like it was originally ours! Now we have Rainy, Summer and Harmattan seasons! That doesn’t sound bad at all.
In this season you see a great number of IJGB’s (I just got back’s). These are Nigerians in the diaspora who come back to the country for some ‘know-my-roots’ kinda holidays.
It’s fun to watch them in the malls, streets and restaurants speaking in their multiple accents. However, I’m more interested in what we lot staying in Nigeria, can do this summer.
Understandably, most will be working even during this season as one has to put food on the table. However, for those who take annual leave during this time, or the entrepreneurs, there are anumber of things to do this summer!
1. Travel
Admittedly this is the most common option and understandably so. Who doesn’t want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Nigeria for a few weeks to rejuvenate? Thankfully there are tons of summer sale where you can get cheap flights to your desired summer destinations. Travel, experience new cultures, meet new people, eat new food and then come back recharged for the final lap of the year.
2. Salsa Dancing
– I reckon this is one of the least common choices but if you love to dance and you think your schedule hasn’t allowed you explore that option, then choose to change that this summer. There are a few salsa studios in Lagos and all around Nigeria. You simply need to look. Dancing helps relieve a lot of stress. And the great thing is you also get to meet new people, forge new relationships and distress as well!
3. Kayaking
– Did you know you could do this in Lagos? Indeed you can! We are blessed with an incredible mass of water, why not take advantage of it this summer. Get a group of friends together and go kayaking all day! As long as you have no phobia for water you should be fine. I can guarantee that you would have a really fun time.
4. Arcade
Gaming is a really easy way to distress this summer. There are a good number of parks and arcade locations around Lagos and Nigeria to service your needs. A few weekends at the arcade playing a wide variety of games will leave you feeling like a child again. Who doesn’t want the fresh energy of a child?
5. Karaoke
– You may have done this before summer but there’s no harm adding this to your summer plans this year. There are tons of karaoke locations around, simply find one closest to you. No one is going to judge you if you have a terrible voice. I’m sure there have seen way worse before you.
Now you have a few more options, go ahead and plan out your summer. Don’t forget to have fun and create unforgettable memories with friends and family!
