Dr. Chukwudibe Rosemary, the Head of Department of Internal Medicine, at the Kogi State Specialist Hospital in Lokoja has died. Rosemary died on Monday.
Report also confirmed that another doctor, Idris Nuhu, three nurses and a ward attendant also slumped due to alleged exhaustion and over work.
The nurses had reportedly been on dusty for more than 48 hours straight and were exhausted. This exhaustion is also reportedly from the increased workloads in the last two months which was brought on by thestrike of Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU).
Th workers had also not been paid since February this year by Kogi State Government following traffic payment adopted by the government.
Dr. Chukwudibe, who passed on Monday, June 18 after being admitted last Sunday evening for heart related issues, developed complications around 2 a.m.which eventually led to her demise.
Upon hearing the news of Dr Rosemary’s passing, another, Dr. Idris Nuhu and three nurses also slumped simultaneously and are currently on admission at the Maternity ward of the hospital.
A staff of the hospital who spoke with newsmen said her death was connected to the financial problem as the deceased lamented before her death that her name was omitted in the March salaries payment schedule as she languish in penury for her drugs which are difficult to purchase due to nonpayment of salaries.
The Secretary, Association of Residence Doctors, Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Dr. Moses Adaudi, confirming the death said the doctor died due to ack of Intensive Care Unit at the hospital where she could have been treated when she developed complications.
. “There was no (oxygen) spanner to place her on oxygen even when she was to undergo some tests…there was money to carry out the test,” he alleged.
He called on the state government to make the welfare of civil servants a top priority.
