New reports confirm that rapper Lil Wayne has won a major settlement in his legal battle with his old record label boss Bryan ‘Birdman’ Williams.
Recall the pair fell out in 2015 when Wayne filed a $51 million lawsuit against Bryan, his Cash Money Records label, and its parent firm Universal Music Group over money he was allegedly owed for his long-delayed album Tha Carter V.
Court documents obtained show Lil Wayne’s attorney filed a legal notice on May 23 stating that all sides are prepared to dismiss the lawsuit.
Sources close to the case revealed Universal executives agreed to pay to settle the case for a sum “well over $10 million.”
Universal chiefs were happy to pay out as they have kept the rights to Drake and Nicki Minaj’s work.
Lil Wayne’s lawsuit demanded Cash Money executives release all their documents relating to the two artists’ contracts with the company.
Another stipulation in the settlement will reportedly see Tha Carter V, which Wayne began recording in 2013, released via Universal rather than Cash Money.
He accused label chiefs of owing him tens of millions of dollars, including an $8 million advance for Tha Carter V and a $2 million payment upon completion of the album.
The record has been gathering dust since 2014 when Wayne claimed Birdman, was refusing to release the album even though it had been completed.
