A bridge has collapsed in trapping pedestrians and causing multiple deaths at Florida International University in Miami.
Police have confined that multiple people have died as firefighters work to secure the scene and rescue people trapped by the collapsed concrete.
The foot bridge collapsed at around 1:30pm local time, according to the Miami Herald.
A portion of the new footbridge collapsed and crushed several cars.
It is not known how many people could be underneath the wreckage of the bridge, which university bosses boasted was “revolutionary” in its design and construction.
Witness Tiona Page told ABC News that the screams coming from the cars were “terrifying.”
“As soon as I looked outside, I saw dust flying everywhere,” she said. “I knew the bridge had collapsed.”
