Many are at the moment lamenting over goods worth millions following a fire outbreak at Bida market in Niger state on Thursday night.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) the fire started at about 8.30 p.m and destroyed several goods and other property in the market. Some witnesses said firemen from the Bida Fire Service and Federal Polytechnic Fire Service were unable to put the fire out due to some shops still being in flames.
Alhaji Mohammad Badugu, the Chairman, Bida Local Government speaking on the incident said the entire everywhere in the market was affected by the fire and all the 600 shops containing several items were lost in the fire.
“We are expecting more fire-fighting vehicles from Minna as our neighbouring local government’s fire-fighting engines are not in good condition.”
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Dibal Yakadi, confirmed the incidence. “My Area Commander is leading police personnel deployed to maintain security of lives and property in the market,’’ Yakadi said.
