There is more peace in being a solo artiste – Eddy Remedy

0

A former member of the defunct group The Remedies, Eddy Montana, in a new interview with Saturday Beats, has opened up on why no one has heard much from him when it comes to music.

Recall Eddy was in the same group as controversial rapper Eedris Abdulkareem and Tony Tetuila, and while together the trio dropped some hits to the delight of the nation.

Speaking on his musical career Eddy said, it’s of course not easy being a  solo artiste, but it is peaceful.

“It has been very challenging being a solo artiste but it is more peaceful. I am at peace with myself and my music is more defined. I have a clearer direction of what I want to do as a solo artiste.”

On when he was still with The Remedies;

“It was wonderful when we were all doing music; it was great. It was a great feeling while it lasted and that is what one can say right now. But there is no sincerity and that is something that I would start preaching from now till when I leave this world.”

On why groups break up;

“Groups break up in Nigeria because of lack of sincerity; I am talking about Nigerian artistes and not anywhere else in the world. People are not sincere with one another. That is the main reason. Once there is insincerity in a group, it disrupts every other thing. If there is love in a group, then there would not be insincerity. If there is any problem, love would help solve it; it heals wounds and allows room for sacrifice. There is no sincerity in musical groups formed today. Even if you have an ambitious person in the group and they are sincere about it, there would not be any problem. If you are ambitious but sincere, you would not step on people’s toes; you would not cheat people or fail to show up at a paid show. We are not sincere people in Nigeria and that is why we have so much corruption in this country.

“There are a lot of examples where members of a group were not sincere to each other. If there is no sincerity there would be no trust and the relationship cannot work. Once the trust has been broken, it would be hard to mend fences. Insincerity on the part of a company is what would make them want to exploit the artiste. If we were sincere and did business the way it is meant to be conducted, then groups would not be breaking up the way it is today. The biggest pressure I see in groups breaking up in Africa especially Nigeria is lack of trust and insincerity. It is a Nigerian problem. We are a corrupt country and it reflects on every individual so when a deal is struck, one of the parties or both would not keep to their end of the bargain,” he said.
