Woman duped in online dating scam gets happy ending

In 2015, Emma, a French citizen resident in the UK, decided to try online dating. Her first match was the very handsome Ronaldo “Ronnie” Scicluna, a 34-year-old electrician from the West Midlands who said he was Italian. While they enjoyed an intense correspondence – even saying “I love you” to one another – by the six month mark, they’d still not actually met in person.

They were speaking every day and had both deleted their dating profiles, but every time plans were made, Ronnie had an excuse.Of course, this should have been the huge giveaway, but it in fact took one of the waiters Emma worked with to spell it out for her to do some investigating.

One quick image reverse search on an app revealed the truth, but it took Emma a little longer to uncover it in its entirety.

Ronnie was not a dreamy electrician from the West Midlands. His pictures were actually of a Turkish actor and model called Adem Güzel, and after a long and bizarre confrontation with “Ronnie” during which he accused her of being crazy, it turned out he was Alan Stanley, a 53-year-old builder and decorator. So in September 2016, Emma found Adem and messaged him to warn him that his photos were being used by 53-year-old decorators to catfish.

As it happens, Adem had received quite a few of these messages, as this was not the first time this had happened, and he initially wasn’t going to reply to her.

But then something told him to – and it’s just as well as he did, because their exchange resulted in him coming to London to meet her, their first date, a kiss and now they’re together.

And, in a weird way they have Alan to thank.Culled from Daily Mirror
