Coronavirus : Nigerian Artistes Embrace Instagram Live Streaming

As the coronavirus crisis roils on, it’s safe to say the pandemic has had a devastating impact on the live music industry and the entertainment landscape in its entirety.

Hundreds of shows around the world have been postponed, movie premieres have been cancelled and lot’s more.

While movie enthusiasts who are held captive at home by the coronavirus can turn to Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and other streaming services, Nigerian artistes like 2face, Asa, Bez, Sound Sultan and others have devised ways to connect with their fans despite self-isolation, the show must go on.

Nigerian soul music queen, Asa on Monday 23rd of March had an acoustic live session on Instagram. The melodious singer serenaded her fans with songs like ‘Eye Adaba’ ‘Bamidele’, ‘Jailer ‘ among others.

On Friday 20th of March 2020, Bez had a live-streaming music session titled ‘Music from a room’ where he performed some of his hit songs.

According to him: “I hope we’re all well. A lot of people I know are self quarantining and it’s crazy. ⁣It’s particularly hard for us artists as we mostly need gigs to survive, I imagine other people are facing the similar challenges. ⁣⁣So I just thought I’ll bring some light to our lives in these uncertain times. Let’s connect from wherever we are and share some happiness! Get some drinks and stream away, I mean what else will you be doing”, he said.

In the same vein, revered pop star, 2face would be having an E-concert in conjunction with a beer brand on the 12th of April 2020. The online concert will be

“ I will be hosting the Extra Special E-Concert, the first of its kind in Nigeria, to support the cause to minimize social gatherings”, he wrote on his Instagram page.

Sensational singer, Tiwa Savage had an Instagram live video session with her fans days back. During the session, the songstress opened up on some few things fans hardly know about her.

Sound Sultan has also resorted to having his album listening party  via Instagram live

He said:” We pre listen the album with my guest Artistes Calling in and my super Fanmily YOU weighing in as we stay at home and keep safe #8thwondah”.

Only time will tell if our entertainers will keep maximizing live-streaming as a tool for reaching out to their fans.
