Harvey Weinstein’s accusers demand over $100m to settle his civil lawsuits

Lawyers and insurers for disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein are currently seeking to settle more than a dozen civil lawsuits against the accused sexual predator.

The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday that two mediation sessions are set to take place next month. Weinstein Company and Miramax lawyers will attend the sessions, as well as Weinstein’s brother and co-founder of both companies, Bob Weinstein.

The alleged sexual misconduct victims are seeking more than $100million in the settlement, but insurers are negotiating for much less.

More than 80 people have filed complaints against him – ranging from sexual misconduct to rape.Benjamin Brafman, responding to the WSJ report on behalf of Weinstein’s legal team, said: ‘These claims are based on false allegations which are meritless, and Mr. Weinstein will continue to defend himself vigorously.’

Some of his accusers have been A-List names including Gwyneth Paltrow and Salma Hayek and others up-and-coming names in the entertainment industry.

Three of the five counts Weinstein is facing include predatory sexual assault and rape in the first and third degrees.

He is due in New York Supreme Court December 20.
