A toddler who was found stabbed and burned at her grandmother’s home was still alive when she was placed in an oven, an autopsy has revealed.

The body of 20-month-old Royalty Marie Floyd was discovered inside a hot oven at the home of her grandmother Carolyn Jones, 48, in Shaw, Mississippi.

The Bolivar County Coroner’s Office said the girl’s cause of death was both stabbing and burning, said WMC-TV.

Jones was arrested at the scene, before being jailed and charged with first-degree murder.

The grandmother made an initial court appearance last Tuesday, where a judge set bail at ($500,000).

Bolivar County Sheriff Kelvin Williams Snr told Associated Press:

“I’ve been doing law enforcement for 25 or 26 years now. This is one of the most horrible things I’ve seen in doing law enforcement. The hardest part … is to see a child victim.”

He added: “Dark days such as these can only be brightened when justice is served.”
