Police nab three-man gang for snatching commercial motorcycles

The Police in Enugu State have arrested members of an armed robbery gang who posed as passengers to snatch motorcycles from commercial motorcyclists in Enugu.

The suspects identified as Ibenyenwa Chukwuemeka, aged 24; Ugochukwu Esom (21); and Emenike Ikechukwu (21) were arrested by operatives of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad attached to the state command on September 2, 2018.

The spokesman of Enugu State Police Command, Mr Ebere Amaraizu said

”The suspects had conspired and robbed an okada rider of his motorcycle on gunpoint on 28/8/18 along Four Corner road, having posed as passengers.

“Unknown to the okada rider, they are armed robbers and after snatching the motorcycle, they escaped to an unknown destination,” Amaraizu said.

 

One of the suspects, Emenike Ikechukwu, blamed his involvement in armed robbery on “hardship.”

The suspect, who claimed to be a father of one, claimed that his inability to take care of his child made him to venture into crime.

Ikechukwu confessed that he intended to use the snatched motorcycle to start business as a commercial motorcyclist.
