A prankster who kung-fu kicked a woman from behind in a viral video has been ordered to pay her more than £50,000 in compensation.

Mario Garcia Montealegre was filmed approaching the unsuspecting victim in the Diagonal Mar area of Barcelona as she stood at the side of the road with a friend.

According to Mailonline, in the footage, 24-year-old Montealegre is seen counting down with his fingers before running and launching a kick at the 48-year-old woman.

He kicks her forcefully on the left calf, forcing her to twist awkwardly and collapse to the ground.

She shrieks in agony and looks back at the giggling video-makers shouting: ‘A***hole.’

In the wake of the February 2015 attack, Catalan police’s Mossos d’Esquadra released footage of the video with the message:

‘Help us to catch this person who thinks it is okay to attack innocent people.’

After the video went viral on social media, Montealegre turned himself in to his local police station.

Now, he has agreed to pay the unnamed woman 60,000 EUR (£52,500) in compensation.

Prosecutors originally requested a total of 45,000 EUR (£39,400) damages, but the defendant wanted to demonstrate his willingness to make amends.

Following the ‘prank’, the woman sprained an ankle, suffered minor injuries to her left knee and wrist, as well as cervical pain which kept her on sick leave for 75 days.
