Teen sets up her friend to be robbed at gunpoint

A Texas teen set up a friend to be robbed at gunpoint and beaten while she pretended to be a victim herself, cops say.

Susan Mize, 17, put the plot in motion by asking 20-year-old Preston Barry to give her and some friends a ride, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

The teen suspect, who resides in Spring, Texas, had offered Barry $150 to give them a lift to Houston on Friday. During their trip, they picked up a 16-year-old male, who got into the backseat, according to authorities.

At that point a 15-year-old male wearing a mask approached the car “brandishing what Preston believed was a handgun,” according to authorities. The 16-year old male who had been picked up pulled out a knife and ordered Barry to be tied up with Mize’s shoelaces, the sheriff’s office said.

The two male suspects then took the money that Barry had in his wallet, and struck him numerous times and threatened his life with the knife and gun, authorities said.

Cops say Barry was also forced to drive to a nearby ATM. He withdrew the money from his account and gave it to the 16-year-old suspect.

Susan was dropped off at her home, but never called 911, according to the sheriff’s office.

Barry tricked the two males by telling them he had more money in his home, according to authorities. Once they arrived at his residence, he went inside and locked the door. His family then called the Harris County Constables Office.

When deputies later found the suspects’ vehicle, the 15-year-old bolted into the woods. A warrant has been filed for his arrest.

Investigators found that Mize had lied to them about what happened and believe she set up Barry to be robbed.

“Susan believed Preston was an easy target and the plan was for the males to rob him for the money in his wallet,” the sheriff’s office said. “Susan advised tying Preston up and taking his car was not her idea or part of the plan.”
